CSS Open Face Project

What happens when you combine 96 seventh graders, a self portrait assignment, and deli meats?

Welcome to CSS Open Face - the culminating project of a 7th grade arts class unit on Food and Art at Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science, and Engineering in New York City.  Coming full circle back to an opening unit on redefining self portrait, Open Face aims to make faces with food - and find the self in a sandwich!  Each of the Open Face sandwiches pictured here is a self-portrait interpretation created by a seventh grade student… and devoured for lunch shortly after.

Now, we invite you to bring Open Face even further - with inspiration taken from the sandwiches you see here, try your hand at creating your own Open Face sandwich!  Just give your sandwich making some personality, snap a photo before you bite, and email it to us at cssopenface@gmail.com. We’ll update this site each month with new Open Face submissions.

Now, enjoy our site, and say hello to some sandwiches!
